The city of Georgetown is facing a lifeguard shortage that may lead to operational changes at the public swimming pools.
According to a May 6 release, the parks and recreation department has 20 lifeguards on staff, about one-third of the more than 60 needed to fully operate pools this summer.
The city will host a hiring event from 4-6 p.m. on May 13 at the Georgetown Recreation Center, 1003 N. Austin Ave.
The event will feature free food, drinks and prizes as well as on-site application and hiring opportunities.
