Georgetown City Council approved a resolution authorizing the use of eminent domain for water easements in two Georgetown neighborhoods, during its April 27 regular meeting.
The easements are for Williamson Utility District No. 25, which would allow it to acquire 4 acres for drainage usage outside of the district boundaries. The city entered into an agreement with the district in 2019 that would require city authorization for eminent domain use according to Georgetown Assistant City Manager Wayne Reed.
Reed added that the district was unable to obtain drainage easements through negotiations.
The second neighborhood, Williamson County Municipal District No. 25, is located in the Water Oak subdivision and partially in the Parkside on the River subdivision along Hwy. 29 in West Georgetown.
