An underground speakeasy is now open in downtown Georgetown, offering cocktails and live entertainment.
The gist
The cocktail bar is located beneath City Post Chophouse, a steakhouse run out of Georgetown’s former post office building that operated from 1932-1990, according to the restaurant’s website.
Brass Peacock’s craft cocktails are inspired by the prohibition era, said Kristina Moore, a spokesperson for City Post. The 1933-style speakeasy is open Friday and Saturday from 6 p.m. to midnight and offers live music both nights, she said.
Customers can guarantee a spot in Brass Peacock by dining at City Post, and staff is looking forward to extending the speakeasy’s hours and adding additional days of operation in 2025, Moore said.
Terms to know
Texas formal attire is required to enter the speakeasy, which City Post defines as "casual elegant" clothing. The dress code prohibits baseball caps, workout clothes, flip-flops, sweatshirts and hoodies.
According to a City Post dress code notice Moore shared with Community Impact, men are encouraged to wear a collared shirt and closed-toe shoes, while women can wear dresses, skirts or pants with dressy sandals, heels or boots.
About the owners
City Post and Brass Peacock are owned by Kevin Cummins, whose wife Rachel Cummins oversees downtown Georgetown’s Sweet Lemon Kitchen and The Little Lemon inside the Georgetown Public Library, according to City Post’s website.
