Frisco police to receive $2M in new drones, vehicles

Frisco City Council members unanimously approved approximately $1.9 million in purchases for the city’s police department during a Jan. 16 meeting.

The details

One purchase approved by council members was a five-year, $96,495 contract for two new police drones. Here’s how that cost works out for the city:

• $19,999 annual cost for the drones
• $3,500 subtracted from total cost due to equipment trade-ins

The contract covers the initial purchase as well as upgrades at set points during the term, replacement parts and replacement drones while they are being repaired.

Another two purchases approved Jan. 16 were to replace some department patrol vehicles, according to agenda documents.

• 10 police pursuit Chevrolet Tahoes at $49,819 each
• 25 police pursuit Chevrolet Tahoes at $51,014 each

Costs related to upfitting the first 10 vehicles is not included in the total and will instead be purchased with a separate contract, according to meeting documents.

What else?

Funding for all three purchases was available through the department's fiscal year 2023-24 budget, according to meeting documents.
