Frisco’s first responders will receive nearly $5 million in new equipment, including a fire engine and mobile radios.
Frisco City Council members approved multiple purchases totaling $4.91 million during a Dec. 5 meeting.
Council member John Keating acted as mayor pro tem during the meeting as Mayor Jeff Cheney was not present, making it a 5-0 approval.
Police radios and radar
One purchase order approved by council members was $394,766 for 61 new radios for the Frisco Police Department.
The portable radios will be for the department's new positions, while the mobile radios will be installed in 40 new police vehicles approved in the fiscal year 2023-24 budget, according to meeting documents.
Another purchase for the police department was $136,592 for 40 mounted radar units, also slated to go to the new vehicles, according to meeting documents.
Fire engine, aerial platform and equipment
A purchase order for the Frisco Fire Department was $4.38 million for a replacement Engine No. 6 and custom velocity pumper engine and rear mount aerial platform for Station No. 6, according to meeting documents.
The 100-foot aerial platform truck will be the city’s fourth ladder truck for Frisco, according to meeting documents.
The order is expected to take 50-52 months to fulfill due to supply chain issues, according to meeting documents.
