Frisco ISD delaying construction on 12th high school due to COVID-19 uncertainty

Construction on Frisco ISD’s 12th high school will be delayed by at least a year after the district board of trustees agreed May 11 to push the work back in light of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The school, set to be located in northwest Frisco, was slated to open in 2022.

Delaying construction on the high school will give FISD the opportunity to keep an eye on how enrollment grows and how nearby neighborhoods develop as a result of the coronavirus, according to a May 12 release.

Construction of a high school lasts around two years, and district leaders said they are confident, based on enrollment numbers, that existing schools can stay in the 5A University Scholastic League classification during that time, per the release.

FISD will suspend its contract with general contractor CORE Construction, per the release.

Funds spent thus faron the school, such as design costs and preconstruction fees, are needed regardless of when the project is built.

Construction on the district’s 11th high school, Emerson High School, is still on track, and the school is still expected to open in fall 2021, per the release.
