‘Texas-sized investment’: Omni PGA Frisco Resort celebrates grand opening

Omni officials, state and city leaders, and hundreds of guests cheered as the doors to the Omni PGA Frisco Resort opened for the first time at a May 2 ribbon-cutting ceremony.

“I do a lot of these events,” Gov. Greg Abbott said. “But it seems, as [Mayor Jeff Cheney] knows, that I may be doing more of these in Frisco than any other place in the state of Texas.”

How we got here: Early discussions for the resort go back to 2018, TRT Holdings President Blake Rowling said.

• May 4, 2021: Omni PGA Frisco celebrates its groundbreaking.
• Feb. 11, 2022: The project reaches its halfway point and the topping out of the hotel building.
• August 22, 2022: The PGA Frisco Headquarters opens.
• March 28, 2023: The grand opening date is announced for May 2.

“Construction on the golf course started 1,362 days ago. ... And now today, we're going to open this wonderful resort,” said Jeff Smith, Omni PGA Frisco Resort’s vice president.

Amenities by the numbers: The $520 million development covers 60 acres of land on the overall PGA campus and has many amenities to offer its guests, Omni Hotels and Resorts President Kurt Alexander said, including:

• 127,000 square feet of meeting space;
• 500 guest rooms;
• 10 luxury four-bedroom ranch houses;
• 13 food and beverage outlets;
• five retail shops; and
• four pools.

“The experiences and the inspiration behind this resort are all rooted in authentic stories and have an intentional nod to the extraordinary energy and spirit that exists in Texas,” Alexander said.

Local impact by the numbers:

• Approximately 7 million people will visit Frisco every year.
• 30,000 rooms have been booked already.
• 508 of the more than 1,000 Omni PGA employees were hired at a January University of North Texas Frisco campus hiring event.
• 300 Frisco ISD golfers will come to the PGA campus every year to train.

“On behalf of our City Council, everyone who leaned in to make this a project reality, ... the residents of Frisco that are going to enjoy this project for generations, let me be the first to say join me in giving them a warm Frisco welcome,” Cheney said.
