The Texas Education Agency has approved the missed school day waiver request from Argyle ISD and March 6 and April 6 will stay as staff and student holidays for the 2025-26 school year, according to a district announcement to community members.
Argyle ISD officials approved a missed school day waiver request after five days of school and facility closures during Winter Storm Fern.
The request was approved at a regular board meeting Feb. 16.
The gist
The district is seeking permission from the Texas Education Agency to waive school days missed due to inclement weather, according to district documents. AISD closed its facilities Jan. 26-30 because of unsafe road conditions after Winter Storm Fern.
AISD previously accounted for up to two bad-weather days when it approved its calendar for the 2025-26 school year, according to district documents.
“If TEA accepts those school day waivers, then we will not have to use bad weather days that are on the calendar,” Superintendent Courtney Carpenter said.
Waivers can be requested due to weather, safety or health issues according to district documents. Assistant Superintendent Dawn Jordan said a total of three days would be waived by the state if approved.
One more thing
The board also approved the payment for employees after the district closed all campuses due to the bad weather. Standard pay is accounted for in the district's school year budget, according to according to district documents. The resolution also gives premium pay for employees who were required to work on-site during those days.
