Tomball ISD students and parents can now see the district's overall State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness testing scores for spring 2019. STAAR testing tests the abilities of students in third grade and above. These scores tie into TISD’s state assessment score, which was released by the Texas Education Agency on Aug. 16. Testing subjects for all students in grades 3-8 included reading and mathematics. Students’ abilities in writing, social studies and science were tested in certain grades. Students grades 9-12 were tested on algebra I, biology, English I and II, and U.S. history depending on their grade level. The TEA measures scores by four levels: did not meet grade level, approaches grade level, meets grade level and masters grade level. They are graded as follows, according to the TEA's website:
  • Did not meet grade level: shows a lack of basic understanding of course content; student needs significant support in the coming year
  • Approaches grade level: shows some knowledge of course content but may be missing critical elements; student may need additional support in the coming year
  • Meets grade level: shows strong knowledge of course content; student is prepared to progress to the next grade
  • Masters grade level: shows mastery of the course content; student is on track for college and career readiness
Here’s a look at how TISD students performed during spring 2019 testing.
