Many of these commercial or residential projects were announced or in progress last year. Here is what is happening now.

1. At mixed-use development Generation Park, McCord Development will add more vertical development at Redemption Square, the development’s 52-acre mixed-use district for lifestyle and entertainment. McCord will start constructing a luxury apartment building with floor retail space while development will also begin on a 143-room Courtyard Marriott hotel in 2018. McCord is also still waiting to hear about its bid for Amazon’s second headquarters. A decision is expected this year.

2. Humble ISD will complete construction on West Lake Middle School, previously called Middle School No. 9. The new middle school will open in August and is located within master-planned community The Groves. It will pull from students who attend Atascocita Springs, Groves and Lakeshore elementary schools. The district could also call a bond referendum in 2018 to fund two additional schools.

3. Signorelli Co. will break ground on The Pointe, a 550-unit multifamily project within the Valley Ranch Town Center, a 240-acre mixed-use development. Cinemark Theatres will open within the development in February. Dining options coming to the development include Pizza Cucinova in the first quarter, The Toasted Yolk Café in the spring and Menchies in April. Ulta, Verizon Wireless and Buffalo Wild Wings are additions slated for summer.

4. Developer Land Tejas began construction in October on the Crystal Clear Lagoon in the Balmoral community. The 2-acre, environmentally friendly lagoon will be a part of the community’s 8-acre Amenity Village that will also include an infinity-edge pool, a food truck courtyard and a hammock park. The lagoon is expected to be finished the first quarter of 2019 and filled in the second quarter.

5. New Caney ISD opened its new natatorium in December. The 33,160-square-foot facility has a 25-yard competition pool and is equipped for 1-meter diving. It seats 400 spectators. Infinity Early College High School is set to open in January. The school currently has approximately 300 students and can serve up to 500. Students receive a high school diploma and are able to earn up to 50 college credit hours at no cost.

6. The Lone Star College-Process Technology Center expects to have approximately 800 students for its 2018 spring semester, which begins Jan. 16. The 40,200-square-foot facility, which sits on 8.3 acres in Generation Park, will prepare students for careers as technologists and operators. They will study technology, logistics, occupational health and safety skills. Students will also work toward a second-level certificate or an associate's degree in applied science.

7. HCA Healthcare plans to add two floors to Kingwood Medical Center’s South Tower in 2018. The structure currently has three floors, and its new fourth floor will be shelled for expansion in the future. The fifth floor will house 38 new critical and intermediate care beds. Once completed, the hospital will have 411 beds. Construction is slated to be largely completed in June, and the additions should open in August. To date, approximately have of the exterior structure is finished.

8. Memorial Hermann Northeast Hospital is currently building a 123,000-square-foot patient tower that will have five floors to replace the South Tower. The project will add 90 patient rooms and room for future expansion and is expected to be completed in December. The hospital is also constructing a 100,000-square-foot medical office building slated for fall 2018. After sustaining damages during Hurricane Harvey, the Memorial Hermann Convenient Care Center at 4533 Kingwood Drive, Kingwood, has completed the remediation process and has a target completion date of late fall.
