Several roadways are under construction for restoration and utilities installations. Check out eight transportation projects around Denton. This list is not comprehensive.
Completed projects
Sunset Street utility installations
Project: Sunset Street between Carroll Boulevard and Bolivar Street received a new waterline and total pavement replacement as part of the Neighborhood 2 bond package approved by voters in 2019.
Update: Utility installations and road repairs are complete. The road reopened and April and final work items were completed in June.
Pershing Drive utilities and roadway replacement
Project: Pershing Drive is receiving new water and wastewater lines, new roadway and portions of the sidewalk are being replaced. Denton voters approved the project as part of the Neighborhood 1B bond package.
Update: Crews are working to replace the driveway, curb and gutter with final paving to follow.
Project: Bonnie Brae Street is undergoing a multi-phase renovation that will widen the road way and add street lights and new utilities along the road. The third phase covers Bonnie Brae Street from Roselawn Drive to I-35E.
Update: Denton City Council approved a $1.05 million change order to replace the waterlines under the railroad tracks that cross Bonnie Brae between Willowwood Street and Parvin Street at a June 16 meeting.
Project: Bernard Street from West Hickory Street to West Chestnut Street will undergo a waterline replacement and roadway restoration, and crews will replace some sections of the sidewalk.
Update: Crews are replacing curbs, gutters and driveways ahead of the final paving.
Project: Bonnie Brae Street is receiving a replacement top layer of asphalt between Scripture Street and University Drive as part of the city’s Mill Overlay Package. The package includes new asphalt for five different road segments. Designs for the package started in January 2025 and construction started in late June.
Update: Crews have completed replacing the top layer of asphalt and striping is scheduled to complete in August.
Project: Workers will expand Robson Ranch Road from Sagehawk Drive to I-35W from four lanes to five lanes to create new left-turn lanes and dedicated right-turn lanes to enter both sides of Robson Ranch Road. Denton County funded the design and the city is funding and managing the project’s construction.
Update: City Council approved a contract for the project at a June 16 council meeting. Construction is scheduled to complete in early 2026.
Project: The intersection at Robson Ranch Road and Ed Robson Boulevard will receive an additional lane, expanding the roadway from four to five lanes and adding a new left-turn lane into the Robson Ranch community entrance. The expansion is part of the Robson Ranch Roadway Expansion project.
Update: City Council approved a contract for the project at a June 16 council meeting. Construction is scheduled to complete in early 2027.
Project: The project will widen northbound Gibbs Road near Robson Ranch Road and add a dedicated left turn lane. The remaining lanes will be reconfigured to provide dedicated through-lanes and right-turn-only lanes. The expansion is part of the Robson Ranch Roadway Expansion project.
Update: City Council approved the project at a June meeting and construction is scheduled to start in July.
