The Texas Department of Transportation is planning on constructing frontage roads along I-35W from 0.7 miles south of FM 407 to FM 2449 in Denton County.
What’s happening?
The project is not set to start the bidding process for construction until December 2027, with a construction company to be selected in September 2028, according to TxDOT documents.
The project is anticipated to cost $260.7 million, and TxDOT has acquired $213 million in funding as of December, according to TxDOT documents. Public information officer Tila Grant said TxDOT anticipates the project to be federally funded.
The project is currently being designed, and TxDOT is in the process of acquiring right of way as well as moving utilities to make way for construction, per TxDOT documents.
"The proposed frontage roads are intended to separate local traffic from through traffic, helping traffic move more efficiently, reducing slowdowns, improving access to nearby homes and businesses, and enhancing overall roadway safety," Grant said. "The project will also reconstruct grade separations along I-35W, enhancing movement across the freeway as well as access to cross streets."
