Texas Woman’s University announced a strategic partnership with Girl Scouts of Northeast Texas to provide admissions, financial aid and readiness opportunities for Girl Scout Gold Award recipients.
How it works
TWU and Girl Scouts leaders celebrated during an Aug. 6 signing ceremony, according to a TWU news release. Eligible Gold Award Girl Scouts will earn admission consideration after finishing their junior year of high school, depending on how they meet admission requirements.
Other opportunities include merit scholarships, waived application fees, admissions counseling, financial aid counseling and college readiness programs. The partnership will also offer expanded access to admissions support and resources to help with college adjustment.
Girls who earn the Girl Scout Gold Award are honored for leading long-lasting projects that have a positive impact in the community, according to the release. The distinction is considered the highest achievement in Girl Scouting.
"This partnership reflects our longstanding commitment to recognizing leadership and expanding educational opportunities for women," said Dr. Carine Feyten, chancellor and president of Texas Woman's University. "Gold Award Girl Scouts have already demonstrated the perseverance, initiative and service that define exceptional leaders. We are proud to recognize those accomplishments and help these young women continue their leadership journey at Texas Woman's."
Jennifer K. Bartkowski, chief executive officer of Girl Scouts of Northeast Texas, said the partnership is helping build “the leadership pipeline for Texas.”
Girl Scouts of Northeast Texas spans across 32 counties, which encompasses 23,000 square miles, according to its website. The organization is part of Girls Scouts of the USA, a national youth leadership organization designed to help girls build confidence through community service and skill-building.
