Denton ISD will launch a new program that will allow DISD residents and student family members who are 60 and older to attend school events for free.

The Gold Card Program is a way to say "thank you" to Denton residents and DISD family members who have "invested in Denton ISD students and schools for years," according to a July 21 news release.
The program will allow eligible community members to get receive free general admission to DISD home events like athletic games, competitions and fine arts performances.
To be eligible, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Live within DISD boundaries
- Have a family member enrolled in DISD, regardless of where you live
- Be 60 or older
“Strong schools and strong communities go hand in hand," DISD Superintendent Susannah O'Bara said. "So many of our neighbors have supported this district for decades, and the Gold Card is a small way to say thank you and to keep them close to the students they've championed all along. There is nothing like looking into the crowd and seeing the community show up for our kids."

The program will begin Aug. 3, and eligible community members can pick up their card Monday through Friday from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. at the Stephens Building within DISD's central offices at 1307 N. Locust St. in Denton. There is no charge for obtaining a Gold Card, according to the release.
Those trying to obtain a Gold Card must show a valid photo ID with their name, date of birth and home address at the time of pickup. The card must be shown at school events for free admission, and only one card can be used per person, the release states.
“We wanted to make it simple for our community to be part of what happens on our campuses and in our facilities," said Nick Petito, DISD's chief communications and marketing officer. "The card is free, it takes just a few minutes to pick up, and it opens the door to hundreds of events across the district all year long. This is about connection, inviting the people who built this community to celebrate what our students are accomplishing."
There are some event exclusions, such as University Interscholastic League, or UIL, playoff games, tournaments, invitationals or events that are already sold out. Events that are not hosted by the school district are also not included, the release states.
