Richardson City Council approved a resolution authorizing an advance funding agreement with the Texas Department of Transportation for the projects during the Oct. 21 meeting.
Along with the approval, City Manager Don Magner has the authority to enter an agreement to execute the project with TxDOT.
What you need to know
The city plans to use the money to improve traffic signals and pedestrian infrastructure at two intersections, while upgrading the pedestrian and bicycle infrastructure along a separate roadway, according to city documents. The total cost for the projects is over $1.9 million, with the city contributing nearly $295,115 for design and direct construction costs.
Per city documents, the city funding will be contributed from special maintenance initiative funds and local transportation development credits. Transportation development credits are awarded through the North Central Texas Council of Governments and can be used as a substitute for required local funding, according to the association’s website.
Nearly $1.48 million from the state comes from the federally managed Highway Safety Improvement Program.
