1. Frisco commission to consider Trader Joe’s-anchored mixed-use development
Plans for Frisco’s first Trader Joe’s grocery store are under review by city officials. Frisco’s Planning and Zoning Commission is set to consider a zoning change for a nearly 10-acre mixed-use development that could include a Trader Joe’s, according to city documents. While the developer has revised plans in response to staff feedback, city staff are recommending denial of the zoning request, citing concerns about the project’s layout, walkability and overall compatibility with surrounding development.

2. Celina eyes 113-acre land trade with Prosper ISD
A land swap between the city of Celina and Prosper ISD could move forward in the next several months, potentially resulting in a nearly 300-acre park off Smiley Road. At an April 14 meeting, Celina City Council authorized the city to move forward with the potential land trade agreement, involving the city, PISD and developer Tellus Group.

3. Plan for 50 single-family homes OK’d near Plano East Senior High School
Plano officials unanimously approved a plan for 14.1 acres of residential development along Los Rios Boulevard. The area was rezoned from estate development to planned development single-family residential homes at a City Council meeting April 27. The 50 single-family homes on this property will have 7,000-square-foot lot sizes, or 9,000-square-foot lot sizes at the ends of a block, with a three-car garage, according to city documents.

4. ‘A generational gift’: Frisco begins construction on 1,011-acre Grand Park
Construction is officially underway on the first phase of Grand Park, Frisco’s long-planned signature park near downtown. City officials broke ground April 27 on the park, which will span over 1,000 acres just west of the Dallas North Tollway. Frisco Mayor Jeff Cheney said Grand Park is one of Frisco’s “20-year overnight success stories,” as the project has been in the works since Frisco voters approved bond funding in 2006.

5. The Lion and Crown Pub offers food, live music in McKinney
A new restaurant called The Lion and Crown Pub is now open in McKinney, co-owner Sandra Vazquez said. The Lion and Crown is an English-style pub that serves a variety of foods and hosts live music events, according to its website. The restaurant’s menu includes appetizers, soups, salads, sandwiches, desserts and more. Lion and Crown also serves beer on tap and cocktails.

6. Single-family neighborhood with 40 homes on track for development in Richardson
A residential neighborhood of 40 single-family homes is on track for development in Richardson after the City Plan Commission recommended approval for a rezoning request April 21. The development would replace the closed Cottonwood Creek Healthcare Community, a nursing home that was decommissioned in December. Developer Caldwell Residential plans to raze the nursing home building and construct Greenwood Park, a development of 40 single-family homes around a centrally located neighborhood park.
