DART names interim CEO as Nadine Lee steps down

Dallas Area Rapid Transit named Gene Gamez as the transit agency’s acting president and CEO, according to an April 4 news release.

Former President and CEO Nadine Lee announced in late March that she would not seek an extension on her contract, and the agency’s board terminated her contract earlier this week.

Lee’s contract was set to end Sept. 30. According to the news release, DART officials began discussions with Lee to transition her out of her position earlier than September, but could not reach a consensus. Therefore, the agency decided to terminate Lee’s contract April 4.

The board of directors appointed Gene Gamez as acting president and CEO. Gamez currently serves as the agency’s general counsel and has worked at DART for over 26 years, according to the release.

“We are confident that this decision allows DART the ability to move forward with clarity, renewed focus, and a strong sense of accountability as we continue to serve our region and plan for its future,” the release states.

What’s next

According to the release, the board will move forward with an interim leadership plan and has started a national search for a new president and CEO.
