A new director has been hired to head a Richardson city department created during the most recent budget process.

Wayne Corum, whose appointment was announced via a news release, will begin with the city Dec. 11 as the head of the newly minted Facilities and Fleet Services Department. The new department was previously under the leadership of the city’s chief financial officer.

The overview

The new department that Corum will oversee is a combination of the old Fleet Services and Facilities Services departments that were previously separated. The department will be responsible for overseeing the management of both the city’s vehicles and facilities.

“His expertise in municipal fleet and facilities, coupled with his private sector experience with Fortune 50 companies, align well with the needs of this new department, and we are pleased to be able to bring these qualifications to help serve this community,” City Manager Don Magner said in the release.

Corum has previously worked as a transportation industry consultant for T-Mobile and as a senior fleet manager for Verizon for four years, according to the release. He also has over 17 years of experience working in municipal government.

“My goal is to guide resources to effectively manage and maintain these assets, ensuring the community can take pride in the buildings and vehicles that are part of providing services that make a difference to them every day,” Corum said in the release.
