The city of Richardson is participating in a statewide fitness contest that could result in grant money.

The It’s Time Texas Community Challenge is an eight-week community fitness competition, according to the city. Richardson is currently in 10th place in the large city category.

Residents ages 13 and up are encouraged to complete health-related activities, such as logging water consumption and participating in group and individual exercises. The goal of the challenge is to motivate residents to live healthy lifestyles, according to the It's Time website. Richardson ISD employees and parents can also compete for grant money for the district.

A total of $1,800 in grant funds will be awarded to the community with the most points. The money must be used for future health-related initiatives. School districts with the most points will receive a $500 grant.

The competition began Jan. 6 and will run through March 1. To participate, residents can sign up online at www.ittcommunitychallenge.com.
