Editor's note: This story has been updated with the latest election results.

Unofficial vote totals on June 5 show Arefin Shamsul won the Richardson City Council Place 6 runoff election.

All precincts in Collin and Dallas counties have reported.

Shamsul won the race with 54.96% of the votes to Marilyn Frederick's 45.04%. Shamsul is founder and chief executive officer of Stream Water Group Inc., while Frederick is a Realtor/broker. The Place 6 position is currently held by Steve Mitchell, who has reached his term limit on council.

Shamsul received the most votes in the May 1 election for the seat with 40.5%. Frederick's 30% put her in the runoff over Daniel Burdette, who received 29.5% during the May 1 election. As none of the three candidates in that race received at least 50% of the votes cast, Shamsul and Frederick moved on to the runoff election.
