Richardson ISD schools and offices will be closed Feb. 3 due to campus and travel conditions related to this week’s winter storms.

While conditions on many main roads within RISD have improved, conditions on some neighborhood streets around the district remain dangerous, and some school walkways and parking lots remain icy, according to a post on the RISD website.

Some of the district’s bus fleet could not be prepared to transport students on Feb. 3 because of frozen diesel fuel pumps, officials said. A delayed start would compound the issue, as the same buses are used for elementary, junior high and high school transportation, the post states.

With conditions expected to improve throughout the day, some Feb. 3 evening games and events are expected to occur as scheduled.

RISD has been closed since Jan. 31 after an initial winter storm warning was issued throughout the Dallas-Fort Worth area. The forecast, now an ice storm warning, is projected to last until the morning of Feb. 3, according to the National Weather Service.

Snow make-up day information will be shared at a future board of trustees meeting.

Residents can check the district's homepage, Facebook page or Twitter feed for more information and updates on closures.
