Richardson ISD schools and offices will be closed Feb. 3-4, according to a post on the district’s website.

The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm watch beginning at 6 p.m. Feb. 2 for the Dallas-Fort Worth area with ice and snow as well as low temperatures and strong winds expected.

Allison Prater, an NWS meteorologist, said earlier this week that North Texans can expect to see rain beginning midday Feb. 2, and that will transition into freezing rain and sleet that night. Ice and wintery mix will continue into Feb. 3, transitioning to snow around midday, she said.

RISD's Feb. 2 evening events have been canceled, and practices are scheduled to conclude by 5 p.m. RISD’s elementary xPlore and junior high after-school programs will operate on a normal schedule Feb. 2, according to the district website.

The district’s post said the closure Feb. 3 includes all RISD extracurricular activities, games and after-school programs. Any decisions regarding cancellation or rescheduling of athletics and fine arts events slated for Feb. 4 and 5 will be made Feb. 4 and communicated by coaches and/or sponsors, according to the district.

A decision regarding making up days missed due to weather will be made in March.
