Celina officials approved adding additional traffic control devices along Preston Road before starting on a landscape improvement project.

Celina City Council members approved an additional $106,713 purchase for the $1.23 million Preston Road Green Ribbon project for traffic control devices during an Aug. 13 meeting.

About the project

The Preston Road Green Ribbon project is a city project to add improved landscaping, and replacing plant beds and damaged irrigation along Preston Road. It is expected to start sometime in fall 2024 and be completed in March 2025, according to Celina’s capital improvement project dashboard.

The request to add traffic control devices, which included truck mounted attenuators, which help cushion the trucks from a car crash, and flashing message boards, came from officials with the Texas Department of Transportation.

Work on the project can start once the city receives the devices as TxDOT will not allow the city to close lanes without them, according to meeting documents.

Funding for the devices is available through Celina’s park fees and Green Ribbon grant reimbursements.
