Plans to improve a portion of Celina’s Legacy Drive have officially begun.

Two-minute impact

Celina City Council members approved a $335,560 contract for early layout designs to reconstruct a portion of Legacy Drive, also referred to as CR 6, during a July 9 meeting.

As part of the agreement, designers will be tasked with exploring different road alignments to improve intersection safety at FM 428 as well as find different ways to align the road through Celina’s floodplain.

Legacy Drive is earmarked to become a six-lane divided road, something the designs will account for, according to meeting documents. The Legacy Road and FM 428 intersection being looked at is also expected to eventually become a four-way intersection.

The money for the design contract comes from the city’s roadway impact fees, according to meeting documents. Designers are expected to begin in August and deliver their findings to city staff next March before the project goes out to bid for construction.
