A new facility meant to address child hunger will open in Prosper.

Children’s Hunger Fund, the main organization behind the project, held a groundbreaking ceremony for the facility May 2.

The organization estimates that the new Prosper facility will distribute more than 100 million meals to children living in poverty. About 14% of North Texas residents live in poverty, according to Children's Hunger Fund. Of those residents, about 20% are children who experience poverty.

The facility, dubbed as a volunteer center and poverty encounter experience, will be about 85,000 square feet when completed.

It will include:
  • 10,000 square foot volunteer center
  • 25,000 square foot poverty encounter exhibit
  • 30,000 square foot community center and office space
  • 20,000 square foot processing and storage space
Guests of the facility will be able to visit the poverty encounter exhibit to learn about the struggles of child poverty and the ways they can help.
