Prosper is set to invest more than $607,000 in traffic signal upgrades as town officials work to manage traffic flow.
Prosper Town Council unanimously approved two items related to traffic signal improvements during its April 29 meeting.
The details
The project will expand and upgrade the town’s traffic signal communications network, according to town documents. Work includes installing cameras and communications hardware at three water towers, 16 traffic signals and three pedestrian hybrid beacons.
Council approved two items, totaling $607,353, for the purchase of the equipment and installation work, according to town documents.
Council first discussed the topic at an April 7 work session.

Prosper officials are also considering using roundabouts as an alternative to traffic lights on future rounds as the town develops.
Prosper’s Engineering Director Hulon Webb said previously several roadways in Prosper that are slated for future construction could be candidates for roundabouts. Some roadways could have interim roundabouts, while others may be permanent.
Town staff are working to finalize a policy for evaluating potential roundabout locations in Prosper, as well as a map for the town’s design standards.
