City Council approved a contract with GRod Construction for the work at its May 13 meeting.
The details
The street maintenance, happening this year, is expected to include several components such as:
- Rehabilitation and surface treatment of pavement throughout DC Ranch
- Concrete street panel replacement
- Asphalt spot repairs
- Sidewalk and curb repairs
- Roadway striping
The funding for all of the work is available through the city’s current budget. The city uses pavement condition index ratings to help determine the appropriate work needed for each roadway.
Staff tries to balance this work between major reconstruction activities and preventative maintenance.
The specifics
The work in the DC Ranch neighborhood is necessary due to widespread pavement deterioration and underlying structural failures. Once complete, the roadway’s structural integrity will be restored and its lifespan will be “significantly” extended, according to city documents.
GRod Construction will also conduct selective concrete street panel replacements in areas that are seeing failures but that do not impact the overall structural integrity of roadways.
Targeted work such as this can be more fiscally responsible than replacing a whole roadway, according to city documents. The sidewalk and curb repairs are meant to maintain ADA compliance and pedestrian safety.
