Construction to bring Prosper its fourth fire station is underway.

Members of the Prosper Fire Department, Town Council, residents and other guests gathered at what will become Fire Station No. 4 for a groundbreaking ceremony Jan. 15.

The new station, expected to open at its 3980 E. Prosper Trail site in summer 2026, will be the town’s first fire facility on the east side of Coit Road. It is also projected to be Prosper's second-to-last fire station before the town reaches buildout.

“As we turn the soil today, we're not just breaking ground on a building, we're actually laying the foundation for a safer, stronger, Prosper,” Mayor David Bristol said.

Zooming out

Town officials had been telling residents they would build a fire station in the area since 2010, Bristol said. The Fire Station No. 4 site itself was purchased almost 15 years ago, Fire Chief Stuart Blasingame said.

Until the new station opens, the closest fire station to everything east of Coit Road is Station No. 3, Bristol said.

“To get to the northeast corner of Prosper [from Fire Station No. 3] is about 12 to 13 minutes,” Bristol said. “That added time, it can make the difference in life or death or someone who's in distress.”

For many residents living in the northeast area of the town, which features many of Prosper’s original homes, Fire Station No. 4 will bring first responders around six minutes closer, Blasingame said.

“That can truly be the difference of life and death when we're out here,” he said.

The breakdown

Fire Station No. 4 is a 12,000-square-foot facility that will feature five fire engine bays and accommodations for its firefighters once it opens.

“In the coming years, we plan to expand the services to enable this company, ensuring that we keep pace with our community's rapid growth,” Blasingame said.

Prosper voters approved funding for the fire station in 2020 through a bond, although the project saw multiple delays and price changes in the years since, most recently due to the need to extend a natural gas line further down Prosper Trail where the station is located.

Fire Station No. 4 would not be possible without the support from residents, Bristol said, something he added he hopes to see again in May for the next bond election.

“The town has to have their support to do these kinds of projects,” Bristol said. “The things that are going to be coming up are libraries, roads, rec centers and other town facilities, so we really need to have the support of the voters for this particular project.”

Another detail

Also in attendance at the groundbreaking were representatives from Pogue Construction, the company hired to build the new station. The same team built Prosper’s Central Fire Station, which opened in August 2023 and managed to stay “several hundred thousand dollars under budget,” Blasingame said.

“Obviously we wanted this exact team back,” Blasingame said.
