Residents have a chance to participate in discussion regarding city finances Sept. 12.

Celina City Council members approved a resolution Aug. 8 scheduling a public hearing on the fiscal year 2023-24 budget for their Sept. 12 meeting. Council is expected to vote on the budget after the public hearing portion of the meeting.

What’s happening?

The public hearing will be held in council’s regular meeting chambers at 112 N. Colorado St. Items expected to be discussed during the meeting include:
  • A breakdown of the $195.52 million budgeted expenditures, including $134.29 million in operating funds and $61.23 million in bond funds
  • A new $0.612154 property tax rate, which is roughly $0.02 lower than it was in 2022
The budget would also allocate funds for 30 new employees across multiple city departments, including public safety, public services, and culture and recreation, according to a meeting presentation.

Keep in mind

The city’s fiscal year begins Oct. 1 and ends Sept. 30 every year. Discussions and workshops for the FY 2023-24 budget began in January, according to a meeting presentation.

Residents unable to attend the meeting in person can watch a live recording on the city’s website.
