Prosper ISD’s Superintendent Holly Ferguson will retire at the end of 2026.
Ferguson announced her retirement in a letter to PISD teachers, staff and parents, which was sent out March 9.
“It has been my privilege to serve the students, staff, parents and community of Prosper ISD,” Ferguson said in the March 9 letter. “When I entered Prosper Elementary School in 1998 as a third-grade teacher, I never dreamed what this place would become. Every year since, I have been inspired by the students who walk through our doors—each one a reminder of why we do this work. We build better tomorrows, one student at a time, and I am so proud of what this community has built together.”
The background
The PISD board extended Ferguson’s contract to 2031 during a February meeting. Her contract before the extension ran from July 2025 through June 2030.
“Holly Ferguson embodies what servant leadership looks like in a school district,” Board President Bill Beavers said in the letter. “On behalf of the board of trustees, I want to express our deep gratitude for her vision, her integrity and the standard of excellence she has set for this community. Prosper ISD is better in every measurable way because of her.”
Ferguson joined PISD in 1998, first serving as an elementary teacher before continuing her service as a campus principal, executive director of curriculum and instruction, assistant superintendent and associate superintendent. She was appointed superintendent of schools in July 2020.
“There are no words to express my gratitude to the incredible students, staff and parents in Prosper ISD,” Ferguson said in the letter. “You all are the true shining example of excellence that makes Prosper ISD a destination district.”
Looking ahead
The board will share information regarding the superintendent transition process, according to the letter.
Ferguson will continue to lead through May 18 and then transition to superintendent emeritus and officially retire Jan. 31.
