After Texas legislators approved raises for select public school teachers, local districts have approved compensation plans to account for the state-funded boost in revenue and give raises to employees not included under the bill.

In case you missed it

The state mandated pay increases come from House Bill 2 which passed the Texas Legislature earlier this year and was signed into law by Gov. Greg Abbott June 4. The pay increase is only for teachers with three or more years of experience. Those mandated pay increases include:
  • $2,500 increase for teachers with 3-4 years experience
  • $5,000 increase for teachers with 5+ years experience
The dollar amounts were determined by district size. School districts with 5,000 or few enrolled students will give teachers raises ranging from $4,000-$8,000, according to the Texas Education Agency. The pay increase will also be funded by the state, according to the bill.

Sorting out details

As the bill did not allocate funds to increase the salaries for teachers with less than two years of experience or other district staff, Prosper and Celina ISD officials approved additional pay increases for staff.

Celina ISD

The school board approved other pay increase including:
  • $2,300 increase for teachers with 0-2 years experience
  • 4% increase for all staff
The additional pay increase for teachers with 0-2 years of experience will cost the district $22,800. The non teaching pay raises accounted for $1.4 million.

Prosper ISD

Board members set aside local funds to increase the pay for other teachers and staff members outside the state requirements. Those increases include:
  • $2,500 increase for teachers with 1-2 years of experience
  • 4% increase for staff
The pay increases will be implemented for the 2025-26 school year.
