The details
Prosper ISD was selected from several school districts and was awarded the funds for the "Large district" category. All the categories and winners include:
- Early Childhood Facility — Dr. Sarah K. Jandrucko Academy for Early Learners – $25,000
- School Board – Lamar Consolidated ISD – $25,000
- Small School District – Lubbock-Cooper ISD – $50,000
- Large School District – Prosper ISD – $100,000
The background
The H-E-B Excellence in Education Awards are designed to honor outstanding public school professionals and to thank them for their dedication and commitment, according to the awards' website. Through this program, H-E-B seeks to pay tribute to educators "who go the extra mile" to serve their students and their communities, the website states.
Since it started in 2002, H-E-B has awarded more than $14 million in funding to public school teachers, counselors, principals, school boards and districts, as well as public and private early childhood education centers across Texas.
