Prosper ISD students have continued to outperform their region and state peers on state assessments and in post-school readiness, according to a state report.

The overview

The Texas Education Agency provides data on the performance of each school and district in the state through the Texas Academic Performance Report, also known as TAPR. The report covers the district’s State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness scores, student performance indicators and the district’s financial standings.

Alexis Webb, PISD’s executive director of guidance and counseling, and Yueyue Fan, the district’s director of assessment and accountability, presented the report to the board of trustees Feb. 26. The report uses lagging data, so while the report is for the 2023-24 school year it uses information from the 2022-23 school year, Fan said.

A closer look

Across all STAAR test subjects—reading, math, science and social studies—PISD students surpassed their Region 10 and state peers.
PISD students outperformed their state peers by 11-16% on every tested subject, according to the report.

What else?

College, career and military readiness indicates a student’s preparedness for post college paths. The district’s score in this category has steadily increased the past three years with 80.8% of students meeting the state’s requirements.
The district has worked to increase student scores through college prep courses with Collin College. PISD has also expanded its career and technical education programs and graduation pathways. More CTE courses have been added at the seventh and eighth grade level in high interest areas, Webb said.
