Celina ISD faces soaring student enrollment
Celina ISD is projected to have over 22,450 students by the 2033-34 school year—triple its current enrollment numbers—according to high scenario estimations. Bothwell Elementary is Celina ISD’s fourth elementary school. The new campus will soon be followed by CISD’s fifth elementary school expected in fall 2025 and its second middle school in fall 2026. Even more campuses, including future high schools, are on the horizon with bond conversations starting as the district sees fast growth that mirrors the city. The district is expecting to operate three to four high schools within the next 20 years, with its second opening in 2029 or 2030.
Celina ISD voters approve tax rate election, unofficial results show
District voters approved the Celina ISD tax rate election in November. The proposition received 54.56% of votes in favor with 5,492 votes. The VATRE established a tax rate of $1.2358 per $100 valuation. This is broken down between $0.7869 for maintenance and operations and $0.4489 for debt payments.
Celina ISD offers pathway to teacher certification through university partnership
The district has partnered with Abilene Christian University to offer a fully online degree program and professional development pathways for educators and teachers in the Celina area. The partnership is designed to provide instructional aides, who currently hold associate degrees, with the opportunity to complete their bachelor’s degree and obtain a teaching certificate. This will help fill the pipeline for teachers as the district grows.
Celina ISD seniors eligible for $414M in scholarships through new partnership
Celina ISD seniors have been awarded $414.17 million collectively in college scholarships. The scholarships were awarded through a partnership with VU Scholarships, a platform that matches high school seniors with eligible scholarships. CISD had 8,808 scholarships awarded among Celina High School’s 286 seniors.

Prosper ISD could partner with city of Frisco for $350M performing arts center
The district may partner with the city of Frisco to build a performing arts center. The potential partnership would combine the district’s performing arts center project, which was approved by voters in the 2023 bond program, with the city of Frisco’s plans for a performing arts center. The potential partnership was presented during a Prosper ISD board meeting on Oct. 21 and no official plans have been approved.
Prosper ISD officials OK $493.23M budget with $15M shortfall in general fund
District officials dedicated 81% of its general fund budget to its teachers and other employees. The district’s board of trustees unanimously approved the FY 2024-25 budget on Aug. 26. Here is a quick breakdown of what is included in the total $493.23 million budget: $362.71 million in the general fund, $13.47 million in the child nutrition fund and $117.05 million in the debt services fund. The budget has a $15.45 million shortfall in the general fund as revenue does not meet the district’s expected expenses.
Prosper ISD outpaces state and region in SAT, ACT scores, per state report
On average, Prosper ISD students surpassed state and Region 10 scores for the SAT and ACT exams in the 2021-22 school year, according to state data. On average, PISD students scored about 100 points higher than their region and state peers on the SAT exam. The SAT exam is scored from 400 to 1,600. In the 2021-22 school year, PISD students scored an average of 1,111 while in Region 10 students scored an average of 1,017 and across the state the average score was 1,001.
Number of Prosper ISD students learning English triples in 5 years
Over 70 languages are represented among the approximately 3,700 students who are classified as emergent bilingual in the 2024-25 school year. Emergent bilingual refers to students who are not fluent in English and are learning the language while still developing their first language. PISD has expanded its language programs to accommodate the growing diversity and meet the needs of students learning English. This includes increasing bilingual dual language courses, world language programs and English as a Second Language or ESL courses.
Prosper ISD officials OK selling bonds from $2.7B bond package
The first projects from Prosper ISD’s 2023 bond package were set in motion as district officials authorized the sale of bond funds. The sale of $400 million in bond funds was approved by the district’s board of trustees during a Jan. 22 meeting. This covers $232 million from the district’s 2019 bond program, while $168 million will go toward three propositions from the 2023 bond package.
Prosper ISD looks to bring 8th middle school to Celina
Celina Planning and Zoning Commission members during a July 18 meeting recommended the city rezone 46 acres so Prosper ISD can build its eighth middle school. The school is expected to open in 2026.
