Texas schools are required to have 75,600 minutes of instructional time in the school year, which the district’s calendar committee took into consideration when creating the options, Superintendent Holly Ferguson said during an Oct. 21 meeting.
What are the options?
Both calendars include 85 days in the fall semester and 86 days in the spring semester.
Similarities between Calendar A and B are:
- Aug. 12, first day of school
- Dec. 22-Jan. 6, 2025, winter break
- May 20, last day of school
Fall break in Option A is Oct. 13 and 14 as student holidays. For Option B, the student holidays would be Oct. 10 and 13.
Both calendar options can be found here.
What happens next?
The school board is expected to vote on the calendar options in November after considering feedback, Ferguson said.
