With the opening of Celina ISD’s fourth elementary school in the 2024-25 school year, attendance boundaries will be adjusted to accommodate the new campus.

The gist

Elementary School No. 4 is located in the southwest portion of the district in the Cambridge Crossing neighborhood. A portion of Lykins Elementary School’s boundary will be moved to the fourth elementary school, according to a presentation given during a Jan. 22 board meeting.
A closer look

The district has closed two grade levels at O’Dell Elementary School while newly enrolled students are being overflowed to Martin Elementary School, Superintendent Thomas Maglisceau said during the meeting.

O’Dell Elementary’s functional capacity is 750 students. It currently has 800 students and is estimated to reach 915 students in 2024-25, according to the district’s drafts for projected fall enrollment.

The district may also need to close grade levels at Lykins Elementary, Maglisceau said. The school currently has 809 students enrolled with a capacity of 750.

Breaking down the growth

CISD is forecasted to have 5,367 students in the 2024-25 school year—14% higher than the district's current enrollment of 4,700 students, according to the meeting’s presentation.

In the district, 9,700 new homes are projected to close in the next five years. Student enrollment is expected to reach 13,764 students by the 2030-31 school year, the presentation stated.

The top five growing subdivisions in CISD are:
  • Green Meadows
  • Wilson Creek Meadows
  • Bluewood
  • Cambridge Crossing
  • Homestead at Ownsby Farms
“In seven short years, we will triple in size in our district,” Maglisceau said. “We are looking very carefully at all the different places where our district is growing.”
