School resource officers will be stationed at Celina ISD’s campuses because of an agreement with the city’s police department.

The Celina Police Department will place five police officers to act as SROs throughout the district. The CISD board of trustees unanimously approved the agreement Aug. 21.

The district’s agreement provides for:
  • Four officers
  • One sergeant
The background

Bobby Ray and Afton Martin Elementary School, CISD's third elementary school, opened for the 2023-24 school year. The district needed to expand its SRO program due to the campus addition, according to district documents.

Sorting out details


Per the agreement, the SROs' responsibilities will be to:
  • Provide campus security
  • Assist in limiting access to school grounds
  • Investigate and deter criminal activity
  • Serve as liaison between the school, police department and other agencies of the juvenile justice system
  • Provide instruction on various law enforcement education
The district will be responsible for paying the city 75% of the officer’s personnel costs, including salary, health care and insurance, according to the agreement.
