These are just some of the staples Driton “Toni” Mehmedi, co-owner of Celina Star Cafe said was found at restaurants his parents owned and operated in Illinois.
Driton Mehmedi opened Celina Star Cafe in 2017 with his parents Sami and Anna Mehmedi.
On the menu
The breakfast menu offers a variety of options including biscuits and gravy, omelets, waffles, stuffed French toast and crepes.
“You want classic—regular eggs, hash browns, bacon—we got that,” Driton Mehmedi said. “At home you just make French toast, here we stuff it with our own sweet cream cheese.”
Lunch options include short rib grilled cheese, cheeseburger wrap, chicken bacon ranch panini and chicken fried steak.
“I named a burger after my sister, ‘Rina’s’,” Driton Mehmedi said. “It’s got onions, jalapenos, Swiss cheese, avocado and bacon.”
Driton Mehmedi said there is an appeal to dining out as a family.
“It's nice to cook at home, but it's just easier to go out and eat,” he said. “You get what you want and your whole family can get something different.”
Going forward
Construction is underway for a brunch spot Driton Mehmedi is going to open with his uncle in the new retail development where Costco is being built in Celina. Driton Mehmedi said the tentative name of that eatery is Brunch Factory, which he hopes to open next summer.
The impact
The Mehmedis are Celina residents and enjoy convivial interactions with the community.
“Every time I go to an event in downtown Celina, everyone knows me,” Driton Mehmedi said. “We had a poker night fundraiser for the police department and a lot of business owners were there. So many people said, ‘Oh, you own the cafe. We love it.’ It just makes me feel good.”
