Burn Boot Camp owner Deepal Patel said the gym makes its members do hard things in the gym so that they can do the harder things in life.

“I always say 'what you do in the gym is actually a lot easier than what you do outside of the gym,'" Patel said.

Meet the owners

Patel said she grew up in India and didn’t have a concept of a healthy lifestyle.

“I didn’t have any of these resources and nobody taught me [about healthy living],” Patel said. “And for Burn Boot Camp, it's more about mental health ... We get you physically stronger so that you can get mentally stronger.”

She previously worked as a litigation paralegal but became interested in opening Burn Boot Camp after attending classes. She took the concept to her husband, Moe Patel, who agreed.

In addition to Burn Boot Camp, the couple also owns Project LeanNation, a healthy prepared meals and protein shakes.

What they offer

Deepal Patel said the gym’s mission is to empower members to live a healthier lifestyle through the fitness programs that are offered.

“It’s not just to empower people physically but mentally too and build confidence in them,” Deepal Patel said.

Initially, Burn Boot Camp catered mainly toward women. During the pandemic, Deepal Patel said they decided to pivot to focus on providing classes to families, specially children, husbands or brothers of current members.

What’s special about it?

Deepal Patel said the gym’s community offers a support system and membership includes complimentary child care for children from 8 weeks to 12 years old.

“[I wanted to] build a community that will stand together when you really need it,” Deepal Patel said.

Additionally, even though Burn Boot Camp offers group classes, each trainer is a certified personal trainer.

Although the gym doesn’t offer personal training, Deepal Patel said the gym offers its members one-on-one time with the trainers at no additional cost.

“We do body composition, nutrition guidance and goal setting,” Deepal Patel said. “If you went to a box gym, you’d pay around $350 for a personal trainer to talk about nutrition or goal setting.”

Quote of note

“We are a community-based gym,” Deepal Patel said. “We’re very supportive, whether that’s of things you want in your personal life or professional life. We make it a welcoming environment.”
