A segment of Parker Road in Plano will be reduced to two lanes in each direction starting March 23, according to a city news release.
The closures will allow construction crews to replace a $1.8 million bridge culvert between Canoncita Lane and Bandolino Lane.
The details
The culvert is part of the bridge that allows water from Pittman Creek to flow under Parker Road. Replacing it will take roughly 10 months, per the release.
Crossovers—lanes that allow drivers to change directions or make U-turns—will also be closed near the bridge.
Streetlights on Parker Road that run alongside the Kimberlea and Lancer’s Estates neighborhoods will be turned off for the duration of the project.
The context
The bridge culvert was identified for replacement during a routine Texas Department of Transportation inspection, according to the release.
Most of the funding will come from federal sources.
A separate $4.2 million project to replace 29 bridges using city funds started March 2.
Looking ahead
Additional construction on Parker Road is planned for this year.
Work to put down asphalt overlays on several major thoroughfares, including Parker Road between Independence Parkway and US 75, will start this summer, according to the city’s website.
