Plano officials approve $5.6M to design police training center rebuild

Plano City Council approved a $5.6 million design contract for a police training center rebuild at a meeting May 11.

The gist

The Dallas-based company Brinkley Sargent Wiginton Architects, Inc. will receive $5.66 million to create designs for the new training center. The city is interested in adding additional space to the center and the rebuild will include:

• Emergency Vehicle Operations Course, or EVOC, concrete pad
• EVOC classroom
• Tactical training facility
• Indoor 25-lane firing range

The center’s rebuild will create a more efficient, coordinated and modern training facility, per city documents. The campus also consolidates operations for technical training capabilities and improves interdepartmental communication.

The background

Plano voters approved a rebuild for the city’s police training during the May 2025 bond election, per previous reporting. $51 million of the $647 million bond has been allocated for training center renovations.

The police training center was built in 1990 and has never been renovated before, according to the city website.
