The Plano Police Department will address the dangers of fentanyl use during a public forum March 30 at the Plano Event Center, located at 2000 E. Spring Creek Parkway.

The free event is set to start at 6:30 p.m. and is designed to provide information about the drug as well as community resources to help prevent overdoses and deaths. Panelists at the March 30 event will include:
  • Plano Medical Director Dr. Mark Gamber;
  • Guy Baker, assistant special agent in charge of the Drug Enforcement Administration;
  • John-Mark Meulman, Collin County Substance Abuse Program administrator; and
  • PISD Counseling Services Director Laura Zimmer, who is also the parent of a fentanyl victim.
The event is taking place shortly after Sienna Vaughn, a 16-year-old Plano Senior High School student, died due to fentanyl poisoning Feb. 19, according to a letter to parents from Plano ISD last week.

“We recently experienced the tragic loss of one of our beloved Plano ISD students to a deadly fentanyl poisoning,” Superintendent Theresa Williams said in the letter. “I cannot express the sadness and grief that we are all feeling.”

Williams also asked for “support in educating our children on the dangers of fentanyl and other drugs.”

No registration is required for the event. More information can be found on the Plano Police Department’s Facebook page.
