The city and the district entered into an agreement at an Oct. 20 board of trustees work session. PISD can put the money toward items purchased in these categories since May 20, Chief Financial Officer Randy McDowell said.
The district has spent roughly $275,000 on cleaning and sanitation items and $550,000 on desk shields for students and staff, McDowell said.
The city is one of only a handful in the state giving to its school districts in this way, Superintendent Sara Bonser said. Frisco and Lewisville ISDs, parts of which fall into Plano, will also get a piece of the city's CARES Act funding.
“What the city of Plano has done has set them apart from many other cities and counties,” she said. “We are one of the very few who are benefiting in this manner.”
