The city of Plano is working with Legacy West developers to prepare for the influx of people coming to the new 255-acre mixed-use development, which is scheduled to open in March 2017.
In January 2015, City Council approved a subdivision improvement agreement with Legacy West developers. The $7.6 million agreement delegated the city to fund approximately 30 percent of the needed road construction costs, totaling $2.3 million. Overall road improvements in the area total $10 million, said Peter Braster, director of special projects for the city of Plano.
During an Aug. 22 regular meeting, council members approved an additional $3 million to developers to reflect additional costs that occurred during construction, which began in March 2015.
The $5.3 million in funding from the city will be used to reconfigure the intersection of Headquarters Drive and Communications Parkway adn build the continuation of Communications Parkway from Headquarters Drive to SH 121, as well as various other road improvements near Legacy West. Construction is nearly complete; however there is some landscape and sidewalk work that still needs to be done, Braster said. The final touches will be complete when the adjacent building construction is complete, he said.
Braster said construction at the intersection of Headquarters Drive and Communications Parkway will “square up” the intersection, making the land around it easier to develop.
