With students gearing up to head back to school, here are four family-friendly events you can attend this weekend in Plano:

1. Quilt Plano 2017 at the Plano Event Center

The Quilters Guild of Plano will hold Quilt Plano 2017 on Aug. 11-12 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Plano Event Center, 2000 E. Spring Creek Parkway. The event will have over 300 quilts, the largest amount in its history. Tickets are available for purchase at the door for $10.

2. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’s first performance

The Art Centre Theatre will hold the debut performance of "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" on Aug. 11 at 5220 Village Creek Drive. The show’s production will last until Aug. 20. All tickets are $15. For more information, call 214-820-3228, or visit the theater's website, here.

3. Resident artist hosts graffiti workshop

Artist Samuel Molina will hold a special graffiti workshop for children ages 10 and older on Aug. 12 at Gladys Harrington Library, 1501 18th St., Plano. Molina is the artist-in-residence at the library throughout the month of August. Molina specializes in graffiti and street art, and will also be available in the library during his residential hours for lessons, as well as another special workshop Aug. 26. The workshop is free to the public.

4. Strikes for Strays bowling and silent auction event

The League of Animal Protectors will hold a silent auction at its sixth annual Strikes for Strays event from noon to 4 p.m. on Aug. 13 at the Plano Super Bowl bowling alley, 2521 K Ave, Plano. The auction will also have raffle prizes, T-shirts, a dessert table and adoptable dogs. There is no entry fee, however attendees will have to pay $20 per person to bowl. Some of the items up for auction include Southwest Airline tickets, an Emmitt Smith-signed miniature football helmet and Texas Ranger tickets. All of the event proceeds will go to the nonprofit League of Animal Protectors.
