Since then, Labels has moved locations, begun selling clothing online—both changes were meant to create a smaller footprint for the store—and started offering couture concierge services.
“Let’s say somebody sees something online, or calls me up and says they’re looking for something—I will be able to take it to them at their home,” Gugel said of the couture concierge service. “It’s like having your own personal shopper ... just come to your home.”
The store’s tagline is, “Where classy women consign and savvy women shop,” and that is something that Gugel feels passionate about, she said.
She and her assistant manager, Lydia Albury, act as personal stylists for anyone who comes to Labels.
“We want women to feel, when they walk in, like [it’s] a closet to play in,” Gugel said. “We take people out of their fashion box, and we put them in things that they thought they never ever would want to [try on], you know. [They say,] ‘Oh, that won’t work for me, Judi,’ and I always say, ‘Just trust me.’”
The store accepts clothes that are in pristine shape and that match the store’s high-end style, Gugel said, and the store is never short on clothes, shoes and accessories to pick from.
“Because this [store] is about half the size of our other one, we tend to be a lot more pickier, and we tend to go more for the high-end things or maybe [for] something that’s unusual,” Gugel said.
Gugel says her faith and the relationships she makes with the women who come into the store are the most important parts of Labels.
“It’s not all about the money,” Gugel said. “It’s about ... if other women are in a situation then hey, we’re here for you.”
