Plano city staff is preparing city roads and amenities for anticipated winter weather.

Starting Thursday evening, crews will apply anti-icing brine to bridges and intersections to “prevent or reduce the chances of ice accumulation,” according to a city news release.
Crews will shift to salt and sand operations on Friday when freezing temperatures are expected, the release states. If traffic signals are out, drivers should treat the intersections as a four-way stop.
Drinking fountains and dog park fountains at all Plano parks will also be turned off starting at noon on Friday until temperatures return to safe levels. Dog park fountains will close at noon on Friday. Restroom buildings at the following parks will also be closed starting on Friday at noon:
The Plano Overnight Warming Center, located at the East Plano Islamic Center, 4700 14th St., is scheduled to be open from Jan. 23-26, according to the center’s website.
On nights the warming center is open, buses run approximately once per hour from the Parker Road DART Station to the warming center from 6:30-9:30 p.m.
City staff is encouraging residents to stay home and avoid unnecessary travel during icy or hazardous conditions.
Residents should also bring pets indoors during extreme cold, turn off automatic sprinklers, report any power outages directly to their service provider and check on vulnerable or aging neighbors, the release states.
Those concerned about a pet without proper shelter can call Plano Animal Services so employees can check on the animal prior to dangerous weather.
