The Collin County NAACP and the Plano African American Museum are hosting a parade and subsequent celebration on Martin Luther King Day.

The details

The parade is set for 10 a.m. on Jan. 15 in the Douglass community, a historically Black neighborhood in downtown Plano. The parade will begin at the mural located on 12th Place off of I Avenue.

Following the parade will be a celebration at the corner of I Avenue and 13th Street and the Plano African American Museum at 900 13th Street will be open.

Museum directors Dollie and Toni Thomas said that the museum is hosting several activities for children, including a scavenger hunt around the Douglass neighborhood, arts and crafts and a time capsule, which will be buried in front of the museum.

The museum will also be displaying its “Influencers, Trailblazers and Disruptors,” exhibit, and Toni Thomas added that the museum will have a wall dedicated to Martin Luther King on Jan. 15.
