After a hiatus since October last year, construction on the Evans Park renovation is set to begin in September, according to city officials.

The gist

Plano City Council approved the awarding of a contract to complete the work to Dean Construction during its Aug. 14 meeting. The contract amount will be paid partially by the city and by the insurance for the contract provided by FCCI Insurance Company, according to city documents.

Parks and Recreation Director Ron Smith said construction on the park renovation is expected to resume in early September and take between four and five months to complete.

Smith added that the scope of work at Evans Park will include replacing play equipment, basketball hoops, the pouring of concrete trails, and a new pavilion with picnic tables and benches.

The context

The contract for the park’s renovations was initially awarded in January 2021, Smith said, but the work stopped last October after the contractor notified the city that construction would not be completed.

With construction beginning next month, Smith said he and his staff are excited to proceed with the completion of the planned renovations.
