Plano ISD students interested in cosmetology are getting a unique opportunity.

During its Jan. 10 meeting, Plano ISD board of trustees unanimously approved a partnership with the TONI&GUY Hairdressing Academy, making the school district the first in the country to have a joint collaboration with TONI&GUY.

According to a news release from Plano ISD, students will be selected for the program on a lottery-based system. If selected, they may attend the TONI&GUY Hairdressing Academy starting in the fall of their junior year.

Per the release, successfully completing the two-year program will allow students to take the state cosmetology licensing exam.

“We are proud to offer this one-of-a-kind opportunity to our students,” PISD Superintendent Theresa Williams said in the release. “This unique partnership will provide students with an additional pathway to college and career readiness—whether they are preparing for a career right out of high school or seeking a way to earn an income while attending college.”

For more information, PISD 10th-grade students may attend the open house Jan. 24 from 6:30-7:30 p.m. at the TONI&GUY Hairdressing Academy, located at 1921 Preston Road, Ste. 2022.
